Missions is the second book in the Haadri cycle written by Joules Taylor and the first edition — straight to paperback — has been published by Heartsown in 2009.
Unlike the epic 448 pages of Prime Contact, her first novel, Missions is a slim volume (112 pages) showcasing a collection of short stories following the adventures of Kazestrel and Triskayen — the exotic 'diplomatic team' — on their voyage through the Haadri galaxy.
The revised, second edition of Prime Contact is now available — and with the current interest in vampires, is attracting some attention as it introduces the vourdaki, a vampiric species that frequently preys on the unsuspecting populace. And, speaking of vampires, in December '09 Joules has given an interview to VampChix blog about her non-fiction book Vampires.
Joules Taylor is building a strong fan base of enthusiasts (see some of the things people say), and is renowned for her vivid portrayal of the alien species that populate her tales. The aliens are described with a warmth and humanity that often throws the behaviour of the human characters into stark relief.
Imitation may indeed be the sincerest form of flattery, and Joules is honoured that people enjoy their time in Haadri so much that they start creating their own stories. Visit the new, fledgeling fan fiction contents page at the HaadriGuide.
Heart, the third book in the Haadri cycle, is due to be published by Heartsown late in 2010.
